Ambrosia Maple
“Ambrosia maple (Acer spp.) named from ambrosia fungi, which comes from the ambrosia beetles. The beetles excavate a tunnel into the tree and releases its fungal symbiont. This subsequently stains and discolours the surrounding wood. The discolouration can be very similar to spalted maple. However, with ambrosia maple, the discolouration is centred around the boring paths of the beetles, and their entrance holes can usually be seen.”
